We are an internationally active group of companies specialised in the extraction, processing and refining of the industrial minerals kaolin, feldspar and quartz sand.
Our main markets are the paper, ceramics, glass and building industries.
AKW supplies the entire spectrum of ceramic raw materials. However, industrial processing and refining of kaolin, feldspar and quartz is performed within narrowly defined specification limits.
AKW kaolin (water washed or calcined), potash feldspars and quartz powders are used in the batch and glazing compounds of all leading porcelains, sanitary products, floor/wall tiles and oven tiles as well as in industrial ceramics.
Depending on the application, the kaolin products our customers want may either require high plasticity or they may need to show excellent rheological characteristics (in any case a bright white firing colour is required). Customers may also be looking for feldspars that are translucent when melted and silica flours with low iron and titanium dioxide content. AKW potassium feldspar is particularly well suited to the production of hard porcelain and electrotechnical porcelain due to its high melting point.
